The public libraries of Ionia county and their youth services staff are excited to announce a new program for local preschoolers and their families.

The program, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten encourages families with young
children to read a few books a day until they reach age 5.  Studies show that
reading, or being read to, greatly enhances language skills and fosters a life
long love of learning. The program encourages families by awarding their
dedication and commitment to 1,000 books with the use of books logs and prizes.
Visit your local Ionia County Library during open hours on Saturday, Jan. 23rd
to join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. At sign-up, each
preschooler will receive a folder with instructions and a book log for the first 100 books.
After completing the first 200 books, a prize will be awarded and additional
book logs will be available. If you can't attend the kick-off party, families
can register anytime as this is an ongoing program for the libraries. Lake
